UV filter absorbs the ultraviolet rays which often makes outdoor photographs hazy and indistinct, also compensates for the blue cast sometimes present when shooting landscapes and other outdoor scenes.

The filter holder mount and lens hood screw together and can hold a variety of filters both glass and non-glass, proprietary and hand-made.
